Blythe Electrical recently posted in the ‘North Talk’, a local newsletter From North Warwickshire Borough Council. We wrote about Electric vehicle charging points, check out our article below. If you want more information, please read our electric vehicle service page or our in-depth blog about EV charging in the Midlands.
If you are buying an Electric Vehicle you may wish to have an EV charging unit installed at your home or business premises.
There are a range of EV units available to suit different requirements – mini units, tethered units, socket only units, load management, pay as you go, free standing units, wall mounted. The charging socket shown is an EO mini.
To benefit from an EV charging point, the government (Office of Low Emission vehicles-OLEV) are providing a £500 grant* towards the cost of having an EV charging socket installed at your home or business premises, *subject to terms and conditions, and Installations must be completed by an OLEV ‘Approved installer’. Blythe Electrical (Warwickshire) Ltd (OLEV Approved Installer of EV Charging points – EO / Rolec /Zappi units), contact us for more details. Know your car: When you purchase an electric vehicle, check that you get BOTH types of charging lead – a standard 13 amp plug charger should be provided as standard, but for rapid charging, you will need the additional EV charging lead. (Try and get it included in your purchase price rather than as an optional extra). Vehicles are usually categorised as either Type 1 or Type 2 for charging (find out yours). Find out if your car charges at a speed of 16amp (3.6kw) or 32amp (7kw). Find out how quickly you can expect to charge your car.
We continue to consult with a number of local businesses who are looking to install Electric vehicle Charging points at their business premises. Part of that consultancy work seeks to identify the most suitable type of EV charging unit for the location, demand, public or staff only usage, security, and government grants available.
